YILIAN CAÑIZARES
« Vitamina Y »
Yilian Cañizares is one of the most interesting violinists, singers, and composers on the contemporary scene. Without ever betraying her Cuban roots, she blends Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, and classical music in a style that has become her own, with a voice that seems to come from another world.
There are few artists as talented and versatile as Yilian Cañizares, who combines classical virtuosity and jazz sensibility with her experience of Havana, where she was born.
This year, after a remarkable appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Jon Batiste & Cimafunk, Yilian Cañizares returns with a colorful new project entitled "Vitamina Y." The musical universe of this project is the result of a long-standing collaboration with those whom Yilian Cañizares considers her "backbone": Mozambican bassist Childo Tomas and Cuban percussion master Inor Sotolongo. The result is dazzling: Afro-Cuban rhythms, the energy of jazz, the depth of classical music, and the pulsations of Africa come together in a global music project with infinite facets. Another Cuban-style musical kaleidoscope!
